Coco Villa is a dancer, interdisciplinary artist, and educator. They lead an art-research practice investigating relations between body, object, and landscape rooted in African diasporic traditions. While Villa primarily works in analog photography and dance, their practice also includes costume design, performance art, and film. They utilize self-portraiture and movement languages to tell autobiographical stories, explore human intimacy, and build familial archives. Driven by historical and scientific discovery, Villa thrives in the ocean, in the woods, in the dance studio, darkroom and library, playfully creating by hand.
